Getting started

How do I get started?
  1. Download Flightkeep from the App Store, or from Google Play on Android once it's available.
  2. Sign in with your Google account and allow the access Flightkeep asks for, so your logbook can be backed up to your Google Drive.
  3. Optionally, import your existing logbook from Import / Export → Import Data.
  4. Tap Record a Flight to log your first flight.
Do I need a Google account?

Yes. Flightkeep uses your Google account to sign you in and to back up your logbook to your own Google Drive, so you can restore it on a new phone. It's also used to export PDFs to Drive and save certifications to Google Sheets. Any free Google account works, including Gmail. If you don't have one, create a free Google account before you start.

Can I use a work or school Google account?

Usually, yes. Some organisations block third-party apps from using Google Drive, so if sign-in or backup is refused, try a personal Google account instead.

Backups and restoring

Is my logbook backed up?

Yes, if cloud backup is on. Flightkeep saves a copy of your whole logbook to a private Flightkeep folder in your own Google Drive a few seconds after every change. Check it in Settings → Cloud Backup, which shows when your logbook was last backed up. You can also tap Back up now.

What happens if I have no signal?

You can keep recording flights as normal. They're saved on your phone straight away, and the backup catches up automatically next time you open Flightkeep with a connection.

How do I move my logbook to a new phone?
  1. Install Flightkeep on the new phone.
  2. Sign in with the same Google account you used before.
  3. When Flightkeep asks Restore your logbook?, tap Restore.

If you skipped the question, go to Settings → Cloud Backup → Restore. Restoring only adds flights that aren't already on the phone; it never deletes anything.

Can I see the backup file in Google Drive?

No. It's kept in a hidden folder that only Flightkeep can use, so it can't be accidentally changed or deleted. For a copy you can open yourself, export your logbook as a PDF.

Recording and editing flights

How do I edit or delete a flight?

Tap Edit a Flight on the home screen, then choose the flight to change or delete.

Why can't I edit a certified flight?

Once flights are certified, Flightkeep locks them, so the certified record can't be changed afterwards.

How do I change the hours shown on the home screen and in my logbook?

Go to Settings. Tick the totals you want under Dashboard Hours for the home screen, and under Logbook Hours for the breakdown at the top of Show Logbook.

Does Flightkeep have dark mode?

Yes. In Settings → Appearance, choose Light or Dark, or System to follow your phone's setting.

Importing and exporting

How do I import my logbook from SMART Aviation?
  1. Export your logbook from SMART Aviation as a CSV file.
  2. In Flightkeep, tap Import / Export → Import Data and choose the CSV file.
  3. Check the preview, then save the flights to your logbook.

You can also import from a Google Sheet: convert the CSV to a Google spreadsheet named exactly logbookimport, then use the Google Sheets option on the same screen.

How do I get a PDF of my logbook?

Tap Import / Export → Export Logbook. Download the PDF to your phone, where you can save, print or share it, or save it straight to your Google Drive.

Certifying entries

How do I certify entries?
  1. Tap Certify Entries and select the flights.
  2. Enter the certifier's name, ARN and the certification date.
  3. Tap Sign, sign on the full-screen pad, and tap Done.
  4. Tick the confirmation and tap Certify & save to Google Sheets.
It says no spreadsheet named "logbookimport" was found

Certifications are saved to a Google Sheet named exactly logbookimport in your Google Drive. Create a spreadsheet with that name, signed in with the same Google account you use in Flightkeep, then try again. Flightkeep adds a Certifications tab to it automatically. Make sure there's only one spreadsheet with that name.

Recency

Which recency rules does Flightkeep check?
  • Passenger carrying: 3 take-offs and 3 landings in the last 90 days, and 3 at night for night VFR.
  • IFR: 3 instrument approaches in the last 90 days, plus recency for each approach type.
  • Single pilot IFR: 1 hour of IFR flight time and 1 approach as command in the last 6 months, plus IFR recency.
Can I rely on Flightkeep's recency for compliance?

Flightkeep's recency figures are worked out only from the flights in your logbook and are for reference. Always check your recency against the current CASA regulations and your own records before you fly.

Your account and data

Why does Flightkeep use a Google account?

Your Google account lets Flightkeep back up your logbook to your own Google Drive, restore it on a new phone, export PDFs to Drive, and save certifications to Google Sheets, all without Flightkeep running servers of its own.

How do I delete my data?

See Keeping and deleting your information in our privacy policy. It explains how to delete your logbook, your cloud backup, and Flightkeep's access to your Google account.
